What Do You Do When God Has Spoken, but You Haven’t Yet Seen the Promise Fulfilled?

Scripture: Hebrews 10:32–39

Sometimes we want God to show us His will when what we really want Him to show us is the outcome. We want to know whether obedience will be difficult, how He will provide, and when we will finally see what He has promised.

But God may make the next step clear without giving us the whole map. What do we do in the space between His command and His promise?

The believers addressed in Hebrews knew what it was to suffer while following Christ. They had faced public insults, stood alongside others who were mistreated, and even lost possessions. The writer calls them to remember how they endured those earlier days. Then he urges them: “Do not cast away your confidence” (Hebrews 10:35).

Remembering matters when we are weary. We can look back and see that God was faithful through hardship we once thought we could not bear. The same God is worthy of our trust in the hardship we face today.

Hebrews continues: “You have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise” (Hebrews 10:36). Notice the order. There may be a season of obedience before we see the promise fulfilled. Endurance is the willingness to remain faithful through that season, even when we do not understand its length or its cost.

Abraham’s journey with Isaac gives us a picture of that kind of faith. God had given Abraham the son he had waited for, then called him to take Isaac up the mountain. Abraham could not see how God would provide. When Isaac asked where the lamb was, Abraham answered that God would provide one—and he kept walking. God did provide, though Abraham could not see the ram at the start of the journey.

Perhaps God has made a step clear to you, but you are waiting for an explanation before you take it. Perhaps you obeyed, and now you are wondering why the promise still seems far away. Hebrews speaks to that very place: hold firmly to your confidence in Christ. Do not shrink back. Continue to walk by faith.

This does not mean pretending the waiting is easy or assuming God will make every circumstance turn out as we pictured it. It means trusting His character while we cannot see the outcome. We can bring Him our questions and keep following what He has made clear.

What has God called you to do in this season? Remember His faithfulness. Take the next step. Trust Him with what you cannot yet see.

Prayer: Father, give us endurance when obedience is hard and the promise seems far away. Help us remember Your faithfulness, hold firmly to our confidence in Christ, and continue doing Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
